Now that the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins have been crowned, we can turn our attention to the upcoming NHL Draft.

I’m not sure we’ll find the second coming of an Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, or even Taylor Hall — but this year’s group is loaded with quality players.

The Edmonton Oilers will select first for the second straight year, looking to build around the exciting Taylor Hall. The Colorado Avalanche, armed with two of the top eleven picks, are positioned to reshape their roster. And the Boston Bruins, holding a Maple Leafs pick, will be on the clock at No. 9. Let’s take a look at the board, shall we?

The Mock Draft

1. Edmonton Oilers: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

This center would make an interesting tandem with Taylor Hall as the Oilers try to improve on their paltry offense.

2. Colorado Avalanche: Jonathan Huberdeau

He can play center or left wing, but my guess is he ends up a winger, given the Avalanche are stocked well down the middle.

3. Florida Panthers: Adam Larsson

The Panthers need impact players on both ends of the ice, and it’s hard to pass on a skilled defenceman with great size.

4. New Jersey Devils: Sean Couturier

The Devils need a big center, and it will be tough to pass on this guy. Many boards don’t have him this high, but I feel it’s a great pick.

5. New York Islanders: Dougie Hamilton

The Islanders need some defence. They have a lot of youth when it comes to goal scoring, so Hamilton makes sense.

6. Ottawa Senators: Gabriel Landeskog

This left winger has great size and should help one of the league’s worst offenses.

7. Winnipeg Jets: Ryan Strome

The Jets will do well if Strome slides to them.

8. Columbus Blue Jackets: Mika Zibanejad

This guy has been moving up the ranks and should be a decent fit if he gains a little weight.

9. Boston Bruins: Duncan Siemens

Some mocks have them taking Ryan Murphy, but I see the Bruins taking a guy with size.

10. Minnesota Wild: Nathan Beaulieu

Minnesota got away from defense and will look to shore it up with this pick.

11. Colorado Avalanche: Ryan Murphy

Colorado takes a forward with its first pick, so I’m thinking they go defense with the second.

12. Carolina Hurricanes: Sven Bartschi

This winger has 30-35 goal potential and should fit in nicely.

13. Calgary Flames: Joseph Morrow

This big defenceman brings toughness but can also score.

14. Dallas Stars: Mark McNeill

This big center has loads of potential and should be a solid two-way player for years to come.

15. New York Rangers: Zack Phillips

This center is very creative and will be a stud once he gets stronger and quicker.

16. Buffalo Sabres: Jamieson Oleksiak

Think the next Chara or Tyler Myers.

17. Montreal Canadiens: Tomas Jurco

A tall winger, but he’s fast — and if he puts some weight on, look out.

18. Chicago Blackhawks: Jonas Brodin

He’s not an elite defenceman, but he has the solid puck-handling skills the Blackhawks covet.

19. Edmonton Oilers: Joel Armia

This guy has a lot of skill and is being compared to Teemu Selanne.

20. Nashville Predators: Scott Mayfield

A tough defenceman who could develop into a solid two-way player.

21. Ottawa Senators: Ty Rattie

This winger has a lot of potential, but he’ll need to add some muscle to be a force.

22. Anaheim Ducks: Mark Scheifele

He projects as a power forward with two-way capability.

23. Pittsburgh Penguins: Brandon Saad

A tough winger who can win battles in the corner.

24. Detroit Red Wings: Boone Jenner

A solid two-way center, exactly the kind of player the Wings love.

25. Toronto Maple Leafs: Matt Puempel

A left winger with good size who can put the puck in the net.

26. Washington Capitals: David Musil

A good-skating defenceman who can deliver a clean first pass.

27. Tampa Bay Lightning: Jonathan Miller

He’s a project, but could be an excellent second-line center down the road.

28. San Jose Sharks: Ryan Sproul

Good size and skating ability, and he can line up on both sides of the ice. He could be very underrated.

29. Vancouver Canucks: Oscar Klefbom

The Canucks love their big defencemen, and Oscar is a steal here.

30. Toronto Maple Leafs: Niklas Jensen

A solid-sized winger with good scoring ability.
