NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora is reporting that the Lions have signed safety Erik Coleman to a one-year deal Friday. Coleman was released by the Falcons earlier this month after losing his starting job to William Moore during the season. Coleman brings a durable veteran presence to a Detroit secondary consisting of young safeties in Louis Delmas and Amari Spievey that could definitely stand to gain a lot from Coleman’s knowledge and experience. Coleman’s underwhelming coverage skills made him a liability in an Atlanta defense that gave up too many plays downfield, but the more young and athletic Lions will require more physicality and instinctive playmaking by the savvy Coleman.
